The syllabus states that:

• Students intending to study the Stage 6 General Mathematics course should experience at least some of the 5.2 content, particularly the Patterns and Algebra topics and Trigonometry, if not all of the content.
• Students intending to study the Stage 6 Mathematics course should experience the topics Real Numbers, Algebraic Techniques and Coordinate Geometry as well as at least some of Trigonometry and Deductive Geometry from 5.3 (identified by §), if not all of the content.
• Students intending to study the Stage 6 Mathematics Extension 1 course should experience the optional topics (identified by #) Curve Sketching and Polynomials, Functions and Logarithms, and Circle Geometry.
• Teachers may wish to include in their teaching and learning programs other non-essential material to broaden and deepen students' knowledge, skills and understanding and to meet students' interests.
