Working Mathematically: Six Stages in the K-12 to Curriculum

In the view of the Board of Studies working mathematically involves the five interrelated processes of:

  • Questioning
  • Applying Strategies
  • Communicating
  • Reasoning
  • Reflecting

These processes are applied to each of the content strands:

  • Number
  • Patterns and Algebra
  • Data
  • Measurement
  • Space and Geometry

The syllabus divides the K-12 curriculum up into 6 stages.

While multiple mathematics pathways are available and individual programs will vary an indicative time-frame for achievement of outcomes is:
